Joseph Blck's house
In Edinburgh for a day or two before heading back to Dublin next week. A lovely sunny day today, felt like summer, so went for a wander around the local neighbourhood of Marchmont. Tucked away up a side street is this little gem, Joseph Black, who discovered magnesium, carbon dioxide and both specific and latent heat, lived here in the eighteenth century. He was Professor of Medicine and Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh for 30 years, back in the days when it meant something to be a professor. There is a commemorative plaque on the wall (see extra).
