Calm?
I took this photo on a walk through Underley before going into school for a meeting, this morning. It has a lovely serenity to it, I think.
And I am - albeit slightly tortuously - going to take that as a metaphor for the apparent return to normality that we are currently enjoying. For example, this afternoon, I walked around to Booths after work, which was pretty busy, as it often is at that time, and I was one of only two people wearing a mask. (See Extra for unnecessary evidence of me having a mask.)
And yet, according to the Guardian's daily tally, we are still enduring well over a hundred Covid related deaths per day. So, some people clearly aren't enjoying this return to normality! Indeed, in the argot of the day, the idea that we can behave as if the pandemic is over is 'fake news'.
Still, if you live under a government of incompetent ideologues, what do you expect? In terms of cause and effect, the world is working perfectly.
