Our walks usually consist of me coercing the stubborn hound to follow a route I have planned with little imagination or effort. When we get to a divergence I indicate my preference by pointing. 

Yet some days I let him take the initiative and go where ever he wants. It is nearly always downhill and usually ends up on the beach, but he has surprised me on occasion.
