The Leith Virgin
Lots of singing today.
This is the Leith Hill Music Festival in Dorking - www.lhmf.co.uk if you are wondering.
The competition part is run over 3 days where 12 local Choirs compete in three divisions over a number of set, ensembles and free choice pieces all adjudicated on the day.
Although I do agree with many people that the point of music (especially choral) is to sing together, and therefore that a music "competition" is not necessarily the best thing in the world I was not necessarily looking forward to the day. And, you know what? It was one of the most fun things I've done in a long time. There were some excellent pieces from all four choirs competing, each had their own strengths, weaknesses, style and choice and its no shame to come [*****d] *behind any of these choirs. (*fill in as appropriate)
If you ever get a chance to sing in a large choir, all I would say is go for it! (Photographically though its not an easy task to perform and capture so photo reportage ops were limited).
So here we are in the "Large Choirs" division on Friday morning. Adjudication and points awards for the first sections is over and here are the results! I won't spoil it for you by revealing the final result. Or which choir I was singing with ;)
The Leith Virgin? That's me. Will be back next year though.
