Fancy Night Out!

One of MrsCyclops' uncles is the screenwriter and producer Jimmy McGovern, and we were invited to a celebration at Liverpool Town Hall where he received the Freedom of the City.  This is a great honour accorded to a select few that places him in the illustrious company of the likes of The Beatles and Nelson Mandela!

It was a lovely occasion with his extended family invited along with a friends and a handful of celebs (most notably Ricky Tomlinson) and video messages from many more including Kenny Dalglish and and Robby Coltrane.

This award was not just about the quality of his writing or popularity of his work, but also about the stories he has told. Perhaps most notable is his film Hillsborough which many credit with telling the true story in mainstream media for the first time and paving the way for a second inquest which determined the victims were unlawfully killed, overturning the official narrative (cover up) that had previously dominated reporting.

After the ceremony there was a drinks reception and dinner, and it was lovely to see many of MrsCyclops family.
