Luke's birthday

Today is Luke’s birthday. It was two years ago that Luke came home to celebrate his birthday with the family and then stayed home, as we went into the first, and very restrictive, lockdown, as the world watched in horror at the virus taking hold everywhere. Now we feel as if we are on the other side of this, life has pretty much returned to ‘normal’ yet there have been many changes that are here to stay, and not all of them any good. At the moment the infection rates are quite high in the UK, but the cases in ICU are currently insignificant so life carries on. In England we no longer have to wear masks, and while I still do wear a mask when on public transport, it seems a bit pointless as masks prevent you from spreading the virus, not from catching the virus, and if no one else is wearing a mask it is not very effective at all. Interestingly Scotland has had stricter measures than England and mask wearing is still required there, and yet they have the worst infection rates in the UK. It still seems like a temporary reprieve, and we will see what happens towards the end of the year as winter approaches again.

Gavin and Adam were up early and went off to play golf, they had a beautiful day for it, sunny and bright. I walked Xena and did some chores around the house. Luke and Meriel joined us at the golf club for lunch to celebrate Luke's birthday, and it was a delicious lunch with quite a spread on offer for the Sunday buffet. Unfortunately Tommy was not with us as he is currently in Bulgaria on his university college rugby beer tour.

After lunch we came home where Luke opened his presents. Luke and Meriel then had to return home, both are busy with their studies (and work). Adam stayed for a while and will be leaving to go back to Cambridge shortly.

It has been a lovely day with wonderful weather too.
