Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Finito!

A lovely day again with a late start for me as I finally caught up on some sleep. .
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we only needed to do gardens once a year and that having completed my circuit of digging over and weeding the back that really was it done for the year?
That's it though. I've been round and dug over, then handforked and weeded the whole back, this is the west side of the garden complete with unpruned apple tree! The North side, in the extra has the unpruned pear tree. We've somebody coming, who hasn't made it yet, to prune them but it's going to be a bit late this year.
Three dicentra in flower Nadine, two of them are well hidden though.
My friendly robin and his partner were out keeping an eye on me today. Last year I put down weed fabric and bark around the dwarf lilac and wisteria in the corner, it was a great success however gravity has taken its toll and a lot of the bark has made its way down the slope.
I did a flying visit to the garden centre at lunch time to buy some to top it up. I ended up with 3 bags - 1 might just have been enough, but might not, so I bought bag 2 which would have been plenty, however having bought two bags, bag 3 was only going to cost another £2 so I brought three bags home and only needed 1. Now I have 2 bags to spare although I'll probably use some of bag 2 to top up some areas on the front terrace under the magnolia tree. I spent an uncomfortable half hour on my hands and knees under the dwarf lilac, its name suggests that it's not very tall and I can vouch for that!
That was really it for today except for a remarkable Amazon delivery.
My phone rang, "Hallo, I've a parcel for you from Amazon, where would you like me to leave it."
"It's OK" says I, "I'm in, I'll come to the door." (I then realised that actually it was a parcel being delivered to Ali's, so tried to phone back, but of course it was a phone for outgoing calls only, what to do....?)
Just then the phone rang again, delivery man, checking as I hadn't made it to the door! We had a good laugh and he then left it in the instructed safe place which I gave him. 10*s for him, what a difference to the one on Friday who left it standing in front of the door in full view of all who passed.
I'm off down to Katy's after dinner for a sleep over and to take the girls to school in the morning. Anybody suggest a nice place for brunch as I'll be up and about early on my own.
Stay safe folks.
