The Book of Yesterday's Tomorrow

My Dear Princess and Dear Friends,

I'm such a fraud. I have no blip for today, so here instead is a picture of Shenée's horse Finn, which she sent me.

We had a very quiet day today, on account of Caro was feeling a bit under the weather (just a stomach thing). It isn't too serious, but I spoilt her rotten and she has been quiet on the couch all day today.

So perhaps this would be an appropriate juncture to tell you about In & Of Itself which I watched a couple of days ago. Jefe forced me to watch it. He told me it had he and Manda crying like babies in front of the tv.

It is on Disney+ here in Aotearoa, I hope it is on there in the UK too. It's a sleight-of-hand illusionist's show, containing lots of close magic and card tricks. But the theme of the show is about the nature of identity and perception and how we define ourselves.

The audience is invited to take cards from the wall upon their entrance - each of which describes them. From "I AM A NINJA" to "I AM A VISIONARY" to "I AM A GOOD TIME". And then the illusionist (Derek Delgaudio) talks about how we see ourselves and how other people see us.

This was prompted by a man telling him, "You are the roulettista". And his show is about finding out why he is the roulettista.

It's a wild ride of stories, memories, tragedies and laughter. And yes, I cried too.

He starts the show by saying that, as an illusionist, he knows his audience expects him to lie to them. "And that frees me to be completely honest," he says. I liked that.

And when the show was over, yes I know I had been tricked. And that a lot of what I had seen cannot have been real. But here's the strange thing about "In & Of Itself". I found I wanted it all to be true. And I prefer to believe that it is.

That's my endorsement of the show. I hope you find it and that you too, cry like a Jefe.
