Glistening

Yesterday wind from the south steadily opened up channels of choppy waves into the ice sheet. Overnight the lake refroze and today a north wind created the opposite effect. When I arrived there was still an area covered with ice along the far shore, on which a large flock of gulls were gathering.

A few patches of ice remained on the rocks which glistened brilliantly despite there being no sun (or perhaps because there was no sun). The intricate patterns were difficult to show successfully, but I think the photo gives an idea.

It began to rain, so the ice won't last long now. I left the gulls to their constant screeching.
