Luca's turn for the 'pox

We all thought Luca might have had a minor bout of chicken pox before Eben came out in spots a few days ago. But no... overnight Luca came out in unmistakable chicken pox eruptions. Fortunately they don't seem particularly itchy.  So now it's his turn to be confined to the house and garden.
Josh and Ruth had organised a morning birthday do today for Eben, who will be 6 on Monday. So I went over early this morning to look after Luca, while J and R took Eben to his party at a local soft play centre.

Luca is a very stoical character. He knew he was missing out on something that they had all looked forward to doing together. We had a few quiet chats: 'Where's Mummy...?' 'Well, Mummy is looking after Eben, he's gone to play with some friends for a little while, they'll be back soon.'  A few seconds later: 'Where's Dadda?' 'Well, he's there too, but don't worry, they'll all be back soon.'  We got on with playing in his sunny bedroom, and then later in the garden. Soon Eben, Josh and Ruth were back, with slices of birthday cake and a little (dairy-free) party bag for Luca. All was well.

I did catch up with Jack yesterday about his Moldova trip, and his thoughts on the UK govt's various clumsy initiatives vis a vis refugees. With luck, I'll have a bit of time tomorrow to pass on some bits of info from him.  Marianna and Frieda are already in Greece with her parents, and he'll be joining them tomorrow for a few days' holiday.

We are so very, very fortunate.
