Reflections
"My words fly up, my thoughts remain below: Words without thoughts never to heaven go."
William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Our last evening in Sofia was made special by an exquisite treat for the mind and the senses. I took my mother to see Hamlet played at the National Theatre. It blew me away and left me awe struck. The cast were a group of brilliant young Bulgarian actors including one I admire tremendously - Marius Kurkinski (he played the King). This classical masterpiece was presented with a very tasteful mix of acting, modern ballet and singing, not shying away from some provocative scenes too. It moved me deeply and livened up memories from times of my own intense soul searching. It also made me feel immensely proud of the artistic talent thriving in Bulgaria despite all political and economic turmoil.
Now that my hard goodbyes are done, I'm sitting comfortably in my sofa back home in England, listening to Blue Love and savouring the wonderful new memories I've just added to my past.
