Prospecting

The blue tits have been prospecting the nest boxes for a few weeks now. If this year follows previous years patterns they will keep doing this until late March when the great tits get serious and boot them out.

I’m not taking sides.

I have read that blue tits had a poor breeding season last year, as nesting fell out of sync with the appearance of moth caterpillars, which are a staple food item for the young. A problem that’s going to arise as our warming planet plays havoc with the seasons. So I wish these small birds well this year, and if they choose this nest box and get their timing right, all to the good.

Not a day for shadows. But definitely a day for a bath - extra.
