A hole in the pavement

Whilst excavating for the new Liverpool One area of Liverpool, the builders exposed the (very) old quay; built in the early eighteenth century. Of course they needed to preserve the structure and built this observation hole on the pavement.

Visitors can view the original structure several metres below the pavement of the new Liverpool One.

I don't think Thomas Steers built the whole dock by himself - I'm pretty sure he had some others to help?
