Perhaps the only one left.
In Birkdale village, thatched cottages have all but disappeared. This one was built by two branches of Mrs J's family back in circa1600. It was a pub then, it later became a cottage and a few generations lived in it.
It is said to be the oldest building in Southport.
The town of Southport only came into being as a seaside resort around 200 years ago. So it pre dates the town itself.
It is actually in the older village of Birkdale which has been swallowed up.
