Void
A further step in the ongoing remodelling of Bradford City Centre has seen the demolition of the huge, vacant, former M&S shop on Darley Street.
The inevitable emptying out of the high street following the opening of the city centre Westfield mall around five years ago has left planners seeking imaginative solutions to the changing retail footprint of the city. Recognising that there would probably never be another tenant for this building, it’s been taken down and will be replaced by a new (ecological build) market. The market traders will move down from one of the current indoor markets at the periphery of the city centre, which will leave that site open to redevelopment for housing.
For the moment the void has left an open view of the back of Piccadilly and Dale Street, which in turn has offered a platform for some roof top street art.
17yo & I had come into town to see The Batman, which was well worth the trip.
