Blackbird
An at home day.
New Scientist Live has been on at Manchester Central this weekend. It would have been great to go, but fortunately it’s also all been online so that’s my route in. I’ve only had time to watch and listen to a few things, and will be watching recordings of many others which are available from tomorrow. Science well communicated is so fascinating.
There’s an interesting article in this week’s NS mag about how cities are providing a hothouse for speedier evolution of some species. I have no expectation of meeting the evolving mosquitoes in the different parts of London’s underground system anytime soon. But I do know that urban birds have modified their songs to “shout” above urban traffic. And the blackbirds have started singing again this year, it’s always a beautiful sound.
