Can you identify this bird?

Two apologies 1) I'm rubbish when it comes to things ornithological so this is probably a really common bird. 2) It isn't a great picture but I genuinely would like to know what it is called (apart from Janet, I thought that would be a nice name)

Local engineers have been doing some work on the New River (which is neither new nor a river). The boards you can see are new and were underwater a week ago. Work has moved downstream and it looks as though they have drained the channel because the level is at an all time low.

Normally there are swans, canada geese, coot, and some ducks, mostly mallard. With the level being so low, this wading bird has arrived. Can anybody give it a name without embarrassing me too much.
