Flooded floor

This afternoon we had a case where Too many cooks spoil the broth supplanted the intention of Many hands make light work.

S started doing the laundry. Hand washing and soaking one item before loading the washing machine. I stepped in and loaded the machine and turned it on. At that time, the tub was empty of water, and no thought was given to whether or not the plug was in.

It was. One wash cycle and two rinse cycles uses a lot of water.

Her brother arrived for a visit and I went to get him a can of beer, and walked into water. The tub had quietly overflowed while we sat reading. The carpet down the passage was very very wet. Which actually prevented the water from continuing out onto the new bamboo boards.

In the small laundry we have been storing the rest of the bamboo boards, waiting for when we do the major renovations. And that was flooded also. To investigate the damage we needed to shift all of the packs of boards. When that was done, I discovered that each pack is wrapped in plastic, and the cardboard package around that had absorbed water, so that the inside of the packs was dry. The cardboard packaging which had got wet, actually dried outside quite quickly. No damage to the boards.

Similarly, the tiles which are also waiting to be used when we redo the kitchen, have not suffered any damage and even those boxes are protective. P helped me with all the shifting out, and we then shared a couple of cans of McLeod's Pale Ale (from Waipu).

The floor inside is now dry again (mostly); I've moved the boxes of bamboo boards and tiles back inside. The laundry has all been washed and is dry.  And I decided to flag a jog this afternoon.

My blip shows the carpet from the passage with one end still very wet.
