Watendlath

We walked to the hamlet of Watendlath today...

It sits high up between the Borrowdale and Thirlmere valleys...

It was once owned by monks of Fountains Abbey.

'vatn-endih-hlada' means 'water end barn'.

There is a wonderful cafe there selling home made rock cakes and other goodies!

Watendlath is also the fictional home of Judith Paris in Sir Hugh Walpole's Herries saga.
