This is Friday

Having been away in France it was good to get back to the usual thursday night at Burgundy's although it was a total bonus last week to sketch the jazz group in the little village of St Blaise du Buis, near Voiron, near Grenoble and of course sketching the choir and orchestra. It was the tenth year of the joint concerts between Kendal Choral and Toutes Aures and my sketches over the past 10 years are to be made into a book - how exciting!

Last night I immediately recognised Mo and Alan Beecham and of course always a joy to see Ted but I did not recognise the fourth member of the group - the bass player in this sketch. Ted introduced him as Ken. So I did a search on my website and you will see Feb 2011He has got new specs!!.

What I enjoyed painting were his hands and the challenge of freezing an image when these fingers move so quickly. I found the same challenge last week when sketching the violinists (see previous blip). It is interesting how the fingers, hands and wrists go into the most incredible angles.
The sketch of the 3 is on the website - Ted was on drums behind the pillar!!
