Diary of an Edinburgher

No bao buns

Gym again. Though I am getting a bit weary. Also, I’ve been on a diet for AGES, and I have lost about 1 gram! I have been depriving myself of chocolate, crisps, pastries, biscuits (I slipped up a bit with alcohol on Archie’s birthday) to no avail. AND I’ve just about doubled my daily step count. (8,784 today)

I did my routine in the gym, though every time I looked over to the scary bendy thing, people were on it, and so I didn’t do that today. But, OOPS, I ‘forgot’ to do my second 10 minute session on the cross trainer. I can walk for 20 minutes on the treadmill without my back getting sore… which is very weird, as that’s not what happens when I walk anywhere outside. Perhaps because I’m more upright…

On the way home I suddenly thought about bao buns. But the cafe didn’t have any - one of the chaps is on his on own, his business partner is in A&E with a sports injury. I felt sorry for him, so I accidentally got the noodles with roast veges. Too late - I remembered their noodles - they are like yard-long, narrow lasagne sheets. But I could eat them at home, and so I could use the ideal utensils - scissors with my fork! (Not chopsticks)

JR took Archie out and said she was going into town to pick up something. There was a lot of banging upstairs (still fixing it up - nobody moved in yet!), so I checked out what was on the big screen. Yes! ‘The Duke’ at 2pm. And I had time for a coffee and pastry at Prêt.

Yes, I enjoyed it - I like anything starring Jim Broadbent, he’s terrific. Though Helen Mirren’s character - the wife - was SO constantly narky with her eccentric autodidactic (I had to look it up, the handwriting expert used by the police called him that) but heart-of-gold husband that I wanted to shake her.

This is Archie ready for bed (I actually took this last night). He LOVES his carrot treats.
