Ghost Runner

Some years ago I read the intriguing story of John Tarrant, the Ghost Runner.  As a young man in the 50s he had tried his hand at boxing and had been paid £17 expenses.  Later when he decided he might do better at running than boxing, those expenses would prevent him from having amateur status and he was banned for life.  He became well known for turning up at races without shirt and number, and running alongside the 'official' runners.  He infuriated the officials who tried everything to prevent him from running.  He became one of the greatest long distance runners but he was also a difficult man in his personal life as well as his running life.

Tonight it was the annual night fell race on the moors above our street. Hobbler Bev and I had a go a couple of years ago and returned to the village pub just in time to enjoy the last of the free chips, ages after all the 'proper runners' had finished.  I decided to have another go at my night photography and stood out on the lane with neighbour Pete who is also a runner and knew many of those taking part.  Needless to say the photos are rubbish but I quite like this ghost runner with his headtorch light trail.
