I took this picture for my new ID card at work today. Far too broody, I know. But I don’t feel much like smiling, although I do want to look interesting. Have I succeeded? Does it matter?

The Bears dropped in tonight. We wished Mrs Bear happy birthday then talked about the blast radius of modern nuclear weapons.

Participation in the global ecosystem and the global economy in future must be based on four things: a commitment to sustainable living; a commitment to minimising inequality; a commitment to democracy; and a commitment to not waging war. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has made us realise the value of not just one of these things, but all of them. They cannot be traded one for another. They are the only conditions that offer the prospect of civilization continuing beyond the darkness that is the first quarter of the twentry-first century.
