Gas! Gas!, Now Working From Home
It seems as if gas prices and problems that it will create will be with us for many months to come due to the lifting of the price cap and now the terrible war in Ukraine. I think bills of £3,000 a year will not be out of the question by the end of this year which is a horrible thought, especially for households that are already struggling and can ill afford even a small increase in prices.
I had another kind of shock relating to gas today. Just after I got into work I went round to see a colleague in another part of the basement as I thought he'd be sitting at his desk. Uknown to me he was on holiday but when I got there I was absolutely sure I could smell gas. I thought it was only right to report it but others said they couldn't smell it (hence the exclamation mark in my image for today). Tests were done and they weren't sure but after I came back from lunch we were suddenly told to leave the basement as soon as possible as they had detected a gas leak (!), the road was being cordoned off and we were to go home. A hotel being renovated very nearby had dug into their basement and caused the leak. Even on they way home I was still thinking about what might have happened if I hadn't gone round to have what I thought would be a bit of a laugh with my colleague.
