Half Marathon Training - The Beginning
Today I decided to run to Braeroy Estate at the head of our Glen. My Mum has done it before, so I thought it was about time I gave it a bash (and I thought it would be good training for the Skye Half Marathon).
It was a lovely sunny day, and the first 7.5 miles passed easily.
When I got to the head of the Glen I decided I would visit the place where a close family friends ashes are scattered . . .only problem was that this meant wading through a river and climbing a massive hill. It was worth it though and half an hour later I was sitting on the rock where they were scattered, looking out over the estate.
Then everything started to go downhill, literally. Trying to get off the hill was a nightmare (heather, thistles, bogs etc) and when I finally made it back to the road, my knees and feet were agony and it had started to rain. Needless to say I was not looking forward to the 7.5 mile run home. LUCKILY, 2.5 miles into my return run, a lovely old couple stopped to ask if I wanted a lift home (to which I swifty agreed)!
So exhausted when I got home, but I had to pull myself together and head out for cocktails to celebrate C's birthday! A lovely way to end a brilliant (if not tiring) day.
