Brisbane's Queen Street
I was in Brisbane's CBD this morning to visit the bank. There are quite a few empty shop units compared to when I was last here, 21 months ago. City centres around the world are taking a while to recover from the damage done by pandemic restrictions and in my opinion, they will never be as popular again.
I travelled in by bus instead of my usual ferry journey. Many of the CityCat ferries and the ferry terminals have been extensively damaged during last week's massive floods and won't be operating for many weeks. There are still many streets lined with heaps of flood-ruined furniture, carpets, beds and other possessions dragged from inundated homes. It's a sad and dreadful sight.
