Not Quite as it Seems

We visited Shugborough Hall (NT) near Stafford on the way to Stockport to visit my sister. In the grounds I saw this tree, then realised that there's actually two, one behind the other. There's the remains of a dead trunk right in front of a fine live tree! It just looks like it's dead at the bottom, but it isn't!
