The South Cluanie ridge
After looking at all that wonderful snow on the Grey Corries yesterday, and a forecast for another day of good weather, I had to get a bit higher and use my axe and crampons! So persuaded H+C to go the the south Cluanie Ridge today. We didn't do the whole ridge, which would be rather a long day for this time of year, but just the four most easterly Munro's, from Creag a' Mhaim, over Aonach air Chrith to Maol chinn-dearg. Today's blip is descending west off Druim Shionnach.
We wore crampons for much of the way, except for the rocky bit between Aonach air Chrith and Maol chinn-dearg. Put them on again for the descent north off Maol chinn-dearg down Druim Coire nach Eirecheanach, which would not have been nice without the extra security of the crampons.
The extras are on the ridge between Creag a' Mhaim and Druim Shionnach and looking back over Loch Cluanie.
We took about seven and a half hours over the whole walk and, tempting though it would have been to do the whole ridge, I think my tired little legs would have taken another two hours for the remaining 3 miles of ridge walk and it would have been well dark before we got down.
