Red-winged Blackbird

Some say that the American Robin is the harbinger of Spring, but it is really the return of the Red-Winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) that signals the approach of warmer weather here. The official first day of Spring is now less than two weeks from now, but that seems so far away. We got more snow and sleet last night, but it has already melted this afternoon. I am tired of seeing so much brown everywhere. At least the pine trees add a splash of green to the landscape.
