Spring Chickens

Last day of our action-packed mini break in the north west Highlands.

Can't thank Ken & Theresa Keith of www.highlandadventures.co.uk enough for their hospitality at Am Fuaran (great wee B&B seven miles north of Ullapool)

The kids loved collecting warm eggs in the morning from the resident chooks, Houdini, Babs, Sweet Pea and Wanda.

We all enjoyed eating them!

Archie the wonder dog enjoyed the chicken poo just as much...

On the way home,we stopped (or at least I forced everyone to stop) at James and Flick Hawkins' Rhue Art Gallery. What a glorious loch-side setting for James powerful and unusual landscape paintings.

They have created two gallery spaces here. One for James' work and the other which pays host to a rolling programme of exhibitions.

One of their star artists is Helen Denerley; her giraffes at the top of Leith Walk in Edinburgh are a relatively new landmark in Scotland's capital.

The Hawkins have dotted several Denerley sculptures around their land and this one made me smile, given our recent egg-cellent adventures with Ken and Theresa.
