Up early after I'd realised that kick off was 0930 and not 1030. Oops!
A slight frost evaporated in the glorious sunshine and only 2 more called off with Covid... which meant we just about had enough to fulfill the fixture. St John's... we'd played them as our last fixture in December and drew the first half 1-1 with our strongest 7 but lost the 2nd half 5-0 with our second string. So a gubbing was on the cards.
As it turned out, James played a blinder in goals (his first full game and debut as a keeper) and included a penalty save!
Oseze scored the last goal... a kid who plays as a solid right back and on the first training session said to me 'I've never scored a goal in a game '. I told him we'd try our best to right that wrong. With 5 minutes to go, back to goal, our midfielder played a ball into his feet. He feigned left, before spinning right, leaving the defender on his knees. Then calmly stroked the ball into the far top corner, over the flailing keeper. He was thrilled. Which was several notches down from his mum, who beamed with pride. She may even have had a tear in her eye.
But yeah. We lost 7-3. But played fantastically well.
Then off into town. To meet Her, and seeing as it was such a nice day, we decided to try Loki off a lead. Back to Granton on a 47, and out to view Nevil Shute's old boat. Hemmed in, Loki couldn't stray far but it was good to see him exploring freely, but also come when called (treats may have been involved)
Back up town, sleep, dinner (tuna with caper vinaigrette, crispy kale) and the joyous encounter with a taxi driver who without indicating pulled out in front of me.
He stopped in time, but then proceeded to chase me down, breaking the speed limit / ignoring the safe distance for trying to pass a cyclist.
We stopped at a junction and he demanded to know why I was riding without a front light. I spun the bike round. This light? What should have followed was an apology, but instead turned into victim blaming. 'Why are you dressed in black?' Etc.
I suggested that had he indicated I might have been able to slow down to allow his safe passage but no. Me Taxi driver = right. You cyclist = wrong. An e mail to the taxi licensing board has been sent.
*sighs*
Extra is the magnificent 8. Alex is on the right. And the youngest in the team. I wonder where he gets his stature from...?
