Clyne Castle

We left our B&B in Hofn (Iceland) to travel back to our house on the outskirts of Vik stopping a few times. Once was at Clyne Castle which ran aground on 17 April 1919 at Bakkafjara Beach, Oraefi region. It's a british fishing vessel. There were a few attempts to rescue it but in 1923 it was scrapped and bits of it remain there. The main photo' shows the glacier where it ran aground nestled in the valley surrounded by snow capped mountains.

The extras are photo's taken along the N1 road back to our base that you might like that are an alternative view of Iceland in winter.

The last one is of a massive thick steel bridge girder that was crushed by the forces of nature that is now a monument to the bridge near Skaftafell that was damaged in floods.
