Ghost station

This is one of the disused tube stations on the London Underground. It opened in 1907, originally as Strand Station but was  then renamed as Aldwych Station. It was originally built with two tracks but only one was used and the station was rather out on a limb. It was closed during the Second World War when it was used as an air raid shelter and storage facility for art and artefacts from the British Museum. Footfall did not pick up very much after the war and the station eventually closed in 1994. It is a Grade 2 listed building. It is regularly used for filming including Darkest Hour (2017) and Atonement (2007). The video for Firestarter by The Prodigy was filmed in the station. The station can be visited on organised tours. The other photo is of the Ukraine flag with the message of peace on the railings of the nearby St Mary-le-Strand Church.
