Dead beech tree
Perhaps not a very interesting photograph but I've blipped this because it's the same beech tree as in my blip of 11th August last year. That showed a giant polypore fungus growing out of its roots. The tree trunk was over 4' in diameter (see the extra from 11th August last year), but the fungus only grows on dead trees and, as you can see from today's blip, the tree was very dead. The trunk, though massive, was rotten and the poor thing came down in a strong wind in January. The ground owners have cut and stacked much of it now and all that is left is the broken stump on the left, standing proud like a broken tooth, still a good 10' high.
