Alfie

I came home from drop off and read the news, I saw that Shirley Hughes has died age 94. She was my favourite author and illustrator of children’s books, we listen to an Alfie audiobook narrated by Roger Allam nearly everyday, I could recite every word. S loves looking at the pictures of Alfie and Annie Rose in her books, I love the domesticity of Shirley Hughes writing and drawings. I pulled a stack of books down from the shelves and flicked through them, I’ll read them with S when she’s home.
