Another Travel Memory
This time a tangible one. I traveled to China in 2002. While I was in Xian I had this calligraphy chop carved with my name. Well, as close to my name as is possible in Chinese. I found it the other day while I was clearing out some things in my studio. I found an ink pad which was a bit dried out but I was able to get the impression. The white characters at the bottom are my whole first name spelled out phonetically. I think the man who carved my chop carved the three syllables, the first, "Pa" I recognize. It is nice to have a physical reminder of a wonderful trip 20 years ago. I am still in touch with a young man I met there when he is able to get through the Chinese government's firewall for internet communication that is.
