The first day of meteorological spring was truly springlike after the overnight frost and the sky was blue with very little wind. A woodpecker was drumming in the woods and larks trilling above the fields while on the shore little sanderlings and pied wagtails searched the sand and oyster catchers sat on the rocks watching over the calm sea. In the extra are the islands of The Lamb, Craigleith and Bass Rock and the conical hill of North Berwick Law. The islands are important for seabirds especially puffins on The Lamb and Craigleith and gannets on Bass Rock and supposedly according to the spoon bender Uri Geller, Tutankamen’s sister had buried Egyptian treasure on The Lamb so he bought the island!
