Watching
I'm watching one of my Lyricism students react to our discussion on The Beatles, five songs from "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver." My God, how lucky we were to live through that era. After listening to the song, the class writes a reaction to the song, creates a visual inspired by the songs, and writes a poem inspired by the songs. The songs - Norwegian Wood, In My Life, Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, and Nowhere Man. What a treat it is to be able to teach this!
Serena, the young lady in this picture, is one of my best students. She considers all these lyrics, takes them to heart, and applies her analysis to them as they apply to her. She and I always give each other book suggestions, many on a spiritual plane. Here are her words in poem form as she wrote with her visual:
The caged bird that sings brings
attention to everything.
They see the same things,
yet their perspective gives them
more, opening doors
closed before.
Unveil reality; listen to truth sing.
