Penicuik Town Hall
The hall was built by Architect Campbell Douglas in Scottish Baronial Style for Alexander Cowan of Valleyfield Paper Mill, a nationally important social reformer and philanthropist. The clock was added 1901, in the design as that on Tolbooth Museum in Edinburgh. This Included a large public hall with gallery, library, gymnasium and public baths. In 1960 the Burgh Council took over from the Cowan Trust to use as the Town Hall, which is now let to organisations and individuals for events and meetings.
We were there last Saturday to see the exhibition in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Glencorse reservoir, today to see the exhibition of the Talla reservoir and aqueduct. This was incomplete due to lack of space (there being a large number of photographs) so we may well return next Saturday as well.
The exhibitions have provided us with several locations to investigate, and hopefully a few blips, and if they are as delightful as the Crawley cistern I shall be happy.
