Steinfort was once a very busy town with quite some activity in the steel industry. Around the year 1919, a dam was built and was used to contain water from the river Eisch to cool the machines. But soon, the dam was too small and the project failed. Another project to produce
electricity was no more successful. The lake became
then a popular place to relax. It was cleared in 1935 to seek the
body of a drowned man, and since the valves were no longer
closed
