Shed
I didn’t want to buy a plastic shed but after having looked at some wooden ones in garden centres and read the less than enthusiastic reviews I could see that quality at a price I could afford was not going to happen. So, I went for a flat-pack plastic one from Argos, which not only had solid reviews but also a 15 year guarantee. By that time I might not need any sort of shed except a tombstone.
There was also an unexpected bonus to buying from Argos as it was delivered to the back yard by a professional Viking and his burly mate, who, barring an eyepatch, had all the hall-marks of a professional Pirate. Their double-act was both efficient and entertaining – the pirate carried the shed pack at a run, whilst the Viking cheered him on and provided a running commentary. Unfortunately, their remit did not include construction.
However, I had already been inspired with a review by a lady who wrote that although it stated firmly on the website that two people are needed to put the shed together, she had managed to do it by herself. It’s sad but true that after a certain age it gets difficult to rope anyone in to help with projects such as these. Younger friends are busy with their own constructions and many of the older ones are too decrepit. On the plus side of lone-working you don’t have to mess around waiting for a mutually convenient time. So, as the sun was shining, I got on with it today.
After a few tussles with the wind the sections started staying upright and all went swimmingly, piece slotting into piece and screws twisting in on the marks. It looked like it could be finished before dark. But the second gable-end has been my downfall. I just don’t have enough arms to clamp the walls together and jiggle the oval brace pegs into square holes from above. Impasse!
