Fallen

I must confess that this photo had very little to do with my day. I took it on my way to meet a friend for lunch. It struck me because I've never seen a shop refurb *that* serious before: loads of concrete and cable rubble.

Mike and I had lunch at Salvi's NQ, which I haven't been to before but which I found I preferred to their restaurant on Exchange Square. Mike and I first met through business - although I can't remember quite when or how - and although we haven't worked on anything together for years, we've remained friends.

We had an enjoyable couple of hours talking about all sorts, including, of course, the ups and downs of running a small business, but plenty else besides.

I went back to the office for a couple of hours and then the Minx and I went to see 'Cyrano' at The Everyman. Now, I don't like musicals as a rule. The one exception to date was 'Hamilton', which I started out watching to humour the miniMinx but ended up thoroughly enjoying.

However, the trailers for 'Cyrano' made me think I’d enjoy it despite it being a musical but, actually, apart from a couple of yawns and being 'back in the room' during some slower numbers, I enjoyed it completely. (The second part of 'Wherever I fall' is tear-jerkingly beautiful.) At the end it transpired the music was - to all intents and purposes - by The National. OK, that's my kind of musical.

The film started early, so we were out by half-eight and had drinks with Hannah and Abi who'd come to The Everyman to meet us. A perfect finish to the day.
