Textile Time Bank project

About a month ago, I received an email from a local craft centre about an exciting project in association with the County Council and a few others. Fully funded. Looking for volunteers to sign up and commit to 50 hours over the next couple of months. The project is to make totebags using material that is not able to be recycled or reused, and which would be dumped in landfill. We would be provided with the material, sewing essentials and ... a sewing machine. Once we have banked the 50 hours, we get to keep the sewing machine.

I registered my interest and today I picked up the kit and machine and I cannot wait to get started.

The material is a mixture of bedding, some clothes, curtains and ties. I've taken a huge load of ties as I've got ideas on how to incorporate them into a design. The hours banked can be a mixture of watching instruction videos, making the bags at home, or making the bags at the centre. The completed bags will be sold throughout the County.
