A Skiff of Snow

Another dusting
of that white stuff overnight
I will ignore it

I was out on my deck catching the early light of morning at 6:30 AM. It was a chilly -12C , but -19 C with the wind chill. I had crunched across the deck in the new snow that arrived overnight. I'm going to pretend it's not there. I will not clear the driveway one more time!

The sunrise caught me by surprise. I was busy cooking my breakfast when suddenly there it was! I had to move the pan off the stove while I went out on the deck for my photo.

At 8:30 I left for Vantage Point by the river. I know I can always get some sunny photos over the river and get my mountains at the same time. The Thompson River is flowing with ice again today. It will as long as the Arctic system keeps us in the cold. I looked downriver and got a start. I thought I saw eagles on the river. I got so excited, but as I neared I realized it was a flock of Canada geese. They were strung along a sandbar facing into the sun. When I pulled up my telephoto I saw my mistake. I should have realized that eagles don't flock. They are independent creatures. They wouldn't be arranged like this.

It was too cold to be out there for long. I skedaddled back to the truck and headed for home. N was just arriving at my door as I was driving down the hill. He's working again today and I'm making lunch.

I am gutted listening to the news of the invasion of Ukraine. Who will stand up to this bully?

We have a mainly sunny day with a high of -3 C. It will be another chilly night and then it warms up over the weekend again.
