Isle of Wight
“Every island to a child is a treasure island.”
P D James
And to this one it’s the Isle of Wight, beginning with a 7.45am ferry crossing. The ferries were booked out yesterday so we took our time travelling down to Lymington and stayed overnight. The Solent was calm so an easy, short crossing for us. We’d settled in by 9am, time to relax and get our bearings. We’re staying at Godshill, yes, appropriately named as the beautiful church is on the hill. I know little to nothing about the island, other than Parkhurst and Osborne House, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see the chocolate box thatched cottages in abundance in the old village, real treasure for me.
