More Old Stuff

After yesterday's 1952 farthing we went back further in time today with a visit to the Corinium Museum stores, which are actually housed in Northleach. They are only open once a month. We'd actually booked this visit last month but it was cancelled and rearranged for today. The guide pointed out that when you visit an actual museum it is like looking at an iceberg. You only get to see a small fraction of the items which they could show. The Discover@The Stores tour was described as showing items from the Cotswolds from prehistory to the 1950’s, through stone, costume, pottery, rural life and social history. It didn't disappoint.

The main blip shows a mammoth vertebra. There was a whole room devoted to their bones collection, human and animal. There are lots of Roman bones there, including some from graves where the head had been buried separated from the rest of the skeleton, usually placed between the legs.

In the extras:
The stone storage room
A fox scarer, meant to be attached to an electric fence
Some fire buckets
A Home Guard uniform

I came away thinking that it was a shame that these items are not on general display, but I guess there just wouldn't be enough room. There were only about 8 of us on the tour, which the guide said was the largest group she'd had.

The images are not the greatest quality as I had to use a high ISO.
