Window Detail - Church of King Charles.

Church of King Charles the Martyr, Royal Tunbridge Wells. Kent.

The first substantial building to be constructed in the town, the church was built as a chapel of ease for visiting members of the English Royal Family and was opened in 1676. It had no resident vicar until 1709, so relied on visiting clergymen to conduct services.

As Tunbridge Wells expanded, so did the church, with it eventually becoming a parish church in 1889.
