Desolate moorlands in the Stainburn Gap

Not a good picture -- just a record of a cold journey from Westmorland to County Durham. Near here the roadside sign proudly proclaims 'You are entering the Land of the Prince Bishops'. Relic of the days when the Church was so institutionalised that it had its princes and fought real battles. Not now, though the battles may still be 'real', they are not bloody.
