The Calf

Exhausted after last nights orienteering I could not face orienteering again even though rain had washed  the snow away and navigating would have been easier in the light. Last nights adventure seemed like a dream. 
We'd stayed the night in Bingley so nipped over to take a look at the  Bingley Five Rise Locks which are the steepest staircase locks on the longest canal in England. But they are being repaired so fencing and cranes prevented scenic photos. In extras is a shot from the less spectacular Three Rise locks a bit further down the Leeds and Liverpool Canal because I cant resist a canal shot. 

Being first trip to Ilkley , I insisted on visiting the Cow and Calf rocks.  With driving horizontal rain I tucked my phone in a drybag, no point taking a camera out today. This is the Calf. You can see that generations of rock climbers have made footholds to the top but with driving rain it was not an activity for today. To give you a sense of scale, Mr P could stand easily underneath the jutting out bit in the left.  In extras is Mr P approaching the Cow from which the Calf has fallen and rolled away. He's going to estimate how many times the Calf rolled once it fell from the Cow so that we can claim a "Earth Cache". (That's a geocache that you claim by answering geology questions for beginners). There are quite a few Earth Caches in this area. Another extra is the fossil of a tree. You can see the tube with bark markings . 
Then, drenched , we went to Bettys for lunch
