Lights - Camera - Action
Sunday 20th February 2022
I was on duty this morning (Plough Sunday for us) and then I was due to set off straight after the service. I had booked myself on a stargazing night at Ingleborough and a self-catering cottage. With storm Eunice I doubted that there would be any stargazing and, at lunch time, I had confirmation that it had been cancelled and I had been refunded. That took the pressure off getting away on time and I ended up taking most of the afternoon to get myself ready. The storm was raging outside and the rain was coming down in buckets.
Eventually I set off North, travelling on a motorway that was more like a river, with high winds, then on country roads. I past some serious flooding at one point and was also faced with a completely flooded road at one point, which I managed to get through. I eventually arrived at my destination at dusk. I'm staying at Burton-in-Lonsdale and as it is a village I didn't think anything of the fact that it was dark. I found the cottage and negotiated finding the key in the dark ... but then I discovered there was no electricity! I phoned the host to be told that there was a power cut in the village, no wonder it was dark. I dumped my bag and went in search of food.
I had researched the nearest fish and chip place in the next village and intended taking it back to the cottage. I got there and found that they don't open on a Sunday! I went to the nearest pub instead and received a very warm welcome and great hospitality. It was a lovely meal. Just as I was finishing I got a message from my host to say the power was back on at the cottage. Perfect.
As it wasn't raining when I got back I went out to get this blip. This is a lot lighter than it looked to me, I couldn't see the side of the bridge at all.
The cottage is wonderful and cosy.
